Global food and beverage company, Retail Food Group (RFG), was well represented by its popular coffee brands at the 2017 Golden Bean award ceremony, taking home six medals.
Australia’s leading specialty coffee retailer, Gloria Jean’s Coffees, was awarded gold in the ‘Franchise Pour Over Category’ for its Columbia blend and silver for its Sumatra blend; while Donut King took out an award for its Royal Bean blend; and Michel’s Patisserie was recognised for its Espresso blend.
RFG’s speciality coffee roaster, Di Bella Coffee, was awarded two medals in the ‘Franchise Milk Based Category’ for its Stellarossa and Xpresso Mobile blends.
The Golden Bean is the world’s largest competition and conference for coffee roasters and endeavours to find the best coffee roasters in the business. Coffees are judged as Espresso, Milk and Filter beverages, with medals awarded across ten categories.
RFG Head of Global Coffee, Darren Dench, said the awards prove that Australia has the cream of the crop when it comes to expertly-roasted coffee.
“Australia’s world-leading espresso coffee culture has seen the country produce household names in the global coffee market, including our very own Gloria Jean’s Coffees and Di Bella Coffee,” he said.
Darren also expressed that coffee is an important growth opportunity for RFG and being awarded six esteemed Golden Bean awards is a reflection of the Company’s focus on its global coffee strategy.
“While RFG is the steward of extensive roasting infrastructure, a global supply chain, considerable expertise and extensive relationships, we’re committed to continued expansion globally and tapping into growing international coffee demand amongst both mature and emerging markets,” he said.
In 2017, RFG established a Middle East Hub via joint venture arrangements with leading UAE-based business, the Al Hathboor Group and HKO Group.
“The establishment of a Middle East Hub enabled RFG to establish a world-class coffee enterprise focused on realising significant untapped greenfield opportunities in the MENA region,” Darren said. “In the future, our strategy contemplates the establishment of similar hub platforms in Asia and Europe.”
