Donut King has proved once and for all that their classic hot cinnamon donut really is the best donut in Australia as they took over socials last month with the Hot Cinni Showdown.
With a huge $10k cash prize on offer, donut fans were encouraged to buy Donut King’s cinnamon donuts and transform them into the greatest donut creation for a chance to win.
From Hot Cinni French Toast and an Espresso MarCinni to Hot Cinni Donutmisu and Hot Cinni Fried Chicken, a grand total of 1,400 donut hacks were entered into the Hot Cinni Showdown.
The judging panel were tested and in the end, the showdown was won by Cheryl from Cranebook with her Hot Cinnamon Donut Baked Alaska – a mouthwatering donut creation topped with apple cinnamon compote, meringue and cinnamon donut crumb.
Always fascinated by the magic of a Baked Alaska, the Hot Cinni Showdown winner Cheryl said, “I wanted to combine two of my favourite desserts, cinnamon donuts and Baked Alaska – I could never understand as a child how the ice cream didn’t melt under the flame!”
An Aussie local, but Canadian-born, Cheryl is excited to use the prize money to help pay for her first trip home to Canada since the pandemic started.
Donut King Marketing Manager Raquel Hine said the Hot Cinni Showdown was a great way for donut lovers to celebrate the humble hot cinni.
“We saw some absolutely amazing submissions! We have an incredibly creative community of donut lovers. It was specifically amazing to see our competition help our winner visit her friends and family overseas after three challenging years of separation and closed borders,” she said.
The Hot Cinni Showdown was part of a 12-week campaign to celebrate Donut King’s humble hot cinnamon donut, starting with a VIP media and influencer event in Sydney on National Donut Day in June, and followed by an activation in Brisbane where the Bachelorette’s Konrad Bien-Stephen handed out 2,000 free Bacon and Egg Donut Burgers.
“It’s been a massive few months for our humble cinni donut! We’ve loved getting out and about to prove Donut King’s hot cinni is Australia’s best donut, and celebrate the nostalgic nature of the Donut King experience”, Raquel said.
Donut King has been the home of the classic hot cinnamon donut for over 40 years, and with over 200 stores around the country, one ‘hot cinni’ is made around every 6.6 seconds.
